定義 Definition


ホルミシス hormesis という言葉には，

 

  • 低用量と高容量で異なる応答がみられること
  • 低用量のストレスで，高容量のストレスに対する耐性が上がること

 

という2つの意味合いがあるようである。論文でみつけたホルミシスの説明を挙げる。

  • Hormesis is a term used by toxicologists to refer to a biphasic dose–response to an environmental agent characterized by a low dose stimulation or beneficial effect and a high dose inhibitory or toxic effect (1).
  • In the fields of biology and medicine hormesis is defined as an adaptive response of cells and organisms to a moderate (usually intermittent) stress (1).
  • Hormesis is the response of organisms to a mild stressor resulting in improved health and longevity (2).

ホルミシスと寿命 Hormesis and lifespan


> 一過性の軽い熱ストレスは酵母の分裂寿命を延ばし，これには RAS1, RAS2, HSP104 が必要（3R）。

: Chronic, nonlethat stress は，逆に酵母の寿命を縮める。

: HSP104 は，酵母の induced thermotolerance に必要な遺伝子でもある。

 

> 最近のメタアナリシスでは，熱ストレスの寿命へのホルミシス効果は一般的でないという結論（2）。 

: 12種の無脊椎動物種を含む 27 studies を用いている。

: 齢，性別の影響はない。高温，長い熱ストレス時間，短いインターバルなどは悪影響。

: この結果はホルミシス効果を否定するものではないが，それが起こる条件は極めて限定的であろう。

: "a narrow parameter window of experimental conditions" と表現している。
